ANTARCTICA AND THE ARCTIC

Antarctica is a continent surrounded by ocean, whereas the Arctic is an ocean almost completely surrounded by land.

Antarctica, the southern polar region, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Its gigantic icebergs and ice shelves are found nowhere else on the planet. The interior of Antarctica is considered the world's driest desert because the extreme cold freezes water vapour out of the air. Annual snowfall on the polar plateau is equivalent to less than 5 cm of rain. The Antarctic Ice Sheet consists of about 13.72 million sq km of permanent ice representing 90% of the world's ice.

Antarctica has the distinction of being the most peaceful place on Earth. No wars have ever been fought on Antarctica. No sovereign country rules it. Tourists and scientists don't need a passport, a visa, or anyone's permission to visit. This "Zone of Peace" is dedicated to science, with a multinational treaty that prohibits mining or acting on land claims.

Arctic Sptisbergen Polar Bear

The Arctic is the northern polar region and it too offers travellers some amazing landscapes as well as a wide variety of wildlife. Several species of animals are unique to the Arctic (e.g., polar bear, walrus, musk ox) and many species of birds have their summer home there.

There are several different Arctic cruises available to locations including Spitsbergen, Greenland and the Canadian coastline.

All of these locations are also steeped in history of heroic polar exploration and it is a unique experience to visit these places. Whichever you choose you are guaranteed a trip like no other.

THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

The Galapagos is one of those locations that is almost mythical. They were first named Las Islas Encantadas or 'the Enchanted Isles' and they certainly live up to that. A location where nature lives in harmony and animals do not fear man.

The Galapagos islands are made up of a group of volcanic mountains. Isabela the largest island, is made up of six volcanoes side by side! Add to that azure waters, empty white sand beaches and the unique wildlife and you can start to appreciate where the enchantment comes from.

Galapagos is an assault on all the senses. You will witness extraordinary sights, your ears will be graced with beautiful sounds, you will feel your heart rise as you realise that you are really there. You are on the Galapagos, over 1000km out into the Pacific Ocean.

All year round - The Galapagos Islands. Take a cruise in azure blue waters to see giant tortoises, blue footed boobies, marine iguanas and penguins aboard first class and luxury motor yachts. A trip to the Galapagos islands is nothing short of a privilege.
