There's something about Africa that inspires us to travel, an inexplicable urge to explore and learn from a place in which, ultimately, our roots lie.

We have all grown up with some strong imagery of what Africa is like. Close your eyes and think of Africa and what comes to mind? I bet it's safari, wild animals, lion, giraffe, elephant, the Serengeti, wide open spaces full of huge herds of antelope or wildebeest, great expanses of desert and mountains, african tribes and maasai warriors. Well it is all of that and so much more.

My first time in central Africa will stay with me for a long time. Arriving in a busy city was an experience like any other busy city in the world, bustling, noisy and crowded. That was soon to change when in a matter of hours I found myself standing on a vast plain observing a pride of lions tucking into breakfast!

The feeling was incredible. Everything about the moment has stayed with me. The smell of the air, the feel of the soil, the colour of the sky and the feeling of being in complete wilderness. There we were a motley crew of 8 watching nature at it's cruelest but most natural. The natural order of life being played out before our eyes. Hunter and prey, the circle of life. I had no doubt in my mind that Africa was different, special, like nowhere else I had ever been. It was like some deep hidden awareness was being brought to the surface. Africa was getting in to me already! Africa offers you experiences like no other location on Earth. From dry barren deserts and salt plains where life somehow manages to survive, to huge snow capped mountains, to savannas thronged with a myriad of wildlife to lush coffee plantations, it is all there to be explored.

The cultures of Africa have to be seen to be believed. The Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania, the Tuareg of the Saharan North or the Ju hoansi and Kung of Southern Africa all have extraordinarily rich and complex cultures.

Africa is the cradle of mankind and a visit to this expansive continent is an enriching and unforgettable experience.
