South Africa is an exhilarating, spectacular and complex country. It's goegraphical extremes include the arid semidesert of Karoo, the snowcapped peaks of the Drakensburg Range, the lush subtropocal coast of KwaZulu-Natal and the fertile temperate valleys of the Western Cape.

Add to that some fantastic wildlife safaris at the Kruger National Park and the magnificent city of Cape Town nestling at the foot of Table Mountain and you have an unforgettable African destination.

Climate & Weather
The weather of South Africa is sunny and temperate, ranging from a Mediterranean type climate in the southwest to sub-tropical climate in the northeast. The sun is on an average shining for 8 to 10 hours a day throughout the year. In the southern hemisphere the seasons are reverse to the northern - midsummer is December to February and midwinter is June to July.
  Climate chart for Cape Town
The South African coastline is largely affected by two ocean currents. Along the West Coast the chilly Benguela Current from Antarctica sweeps past Cape Town while the East Coast and Durban benefits from the warm Agulhas Current, flowing down from the tropics. Geographically these currents mingle somewhere off Cape Agulhas, the southernmost tip of Africa.

When to go
South Africa has one of the most temperate climates on the African continent, and can be visited comfortably any time. Winter (June to September) is cooler and drier, and ideal for hiking and outdoor pursuits. Because vegetation is less dense, and thirsty animals congregate around water sources, winter is also the best time for wildlife-watching.

Summer (late November to March) brings rain, mists and – in the lowveld – some uncomfortably hot days. Along the Indian Ocean coast, conditions are sultry and tropical, with high humidity.

Spring (mid-September to November) and autumn (April and May) are ideal almost everywhere. Spring is also the best time to see vast expanses of Northern Cape carpeted with wildflowers.
